Good Eats: Thanksgiving Edition

Happy Thanksgiving y’all! Well, almost Thanksgiving.

I thought it would be helpful if I shared this with you now so you have a few days to prepare yourself for the big day!

This infographic shows the Top 5 ways to keeping your Thanksgiving day festivities healthy this year!

Were you as surprised as I was to see that #5 recommends you to eat dessert? Of course, it’s suggested that you don’t over do it and eat the whole pie, but enjoy a small slice of pumpkin pie!

Here are a few other tips I found:

  • Get some fresh air: while the turkey is in the oven and before you start to make all of the side dishes, go for a walk and get some fresh air.
  • Introduce a new (healthy) tradition: just because your Grandma made the sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, doesn’t mean you have to include them on yours. Honor her as you make your own healthy version of the dish
  • Pace yourself: the rush of making the dinner is done, and everyone is at the table. Now it’s time for you to enjoy your meal with your loved ones.

Motivational Monday

Happy Monday, y’all!

Have you ever gone to the gym and felt like you didn’t get in a great workout or you didn’t push yourself enough, so you ended up leaving the gym feeling like it was a “bad workout”?

This has happened to me a few times, especially on days after I finish class and am exhausted and all I really want to do is take a nap. But I head to the gym and hop on the elliptical but I don’t give 100%.

This Motivational Monday is a really great reminder that what matters most (in my opinion) is that you are moving for at least 30 minutes!

Weekend Workout

I don’t know about y’all, but for me the weekend FLIES by! Between finishing up homework and studying for exams and squeezing in a little time for friends and football, there is very little time left for a workout. But I think I have found a great solution!

This Weekend Workout was created by POPSUGAR Fitness. This great workout plan combines strength training with 20 minutes of cardio and allows for 10 minutes of stretching. This plan has it all!

What better way to start your Saturday and Sunday mornings than with a quick, full body workout?

The length of this workout is great! It allows you to get in at least 30 minutes of exercise, while still allowing you to enjoy the rest of your weekend plans!

Hey ya’ll! I have been searching for a new pair of running shoes lately and wanted to share  with ya’ll something that I have found.

The first pair is called the Flyknit by Nike. The second pair is called the Nike Free 3.0. The third pair is called the Nike Free TR Fit 3 (unfortunately, these are unavailable at this time.)

There are some really cute tennis shoes that are available that would spruce up your workout outfit! Of course, you would want to make sure that first, and foremost, that the shoes you wear to workout in, run, walk, etc. are comfortable and will support you through your exercise.

But if you can find a pair of shoes that look great while you’re at the gym or getting groceries from the supermarket, why not?

I think a fun, vibrant pair of shoes can brighten up your outfit and your mood!

Motivational Monday

Happy Monday y’all! Time to start another week!

This week’s Motivational Monday is something that really spoke to me. I often go running with my roommates and when I first started running with them, I found that I was either trying to impress them or something because I would run much faster than my body was comfortable with. After a few times of this, my body was punishing me.

What’s truly important is that you are getting up and moving. However long it takes you to run a mile or a 5K, what matters is that you are exercising.

Get Up & Get Active!

Hey y’all!

So with the mountain of homework that sits before me and the exams that lay off in the near future, I needed to find a fun way to get in a workout in between class and studying.

I found this workout on Pinterest and thought I would give it a try.

The great thing about this workout is that it’s set to a fun, upbeat song. I found that it was easy to keep on beat with the song, which helped me focus my breathing. The whole workout took about 3 minutes, and believe me it got my heart-rate up!

Now to find a few more workouts similar to this on Pinterest and then I’ll have a complete workout that I can do in my dorm room!

Good Eats

Hey y’all!

So before Christmas music and Christmas flavored goodies are in full affect, I thought I would share a few pumpkin recipes (it is still fall after all!)

83e6f298f4c91a2a54a77f155bf8a5d0This pumpkin spice smooth is super easy and would make a great snack post-workout!

Here’s what you need:

  • 1/2 cup pumpkin (canned or freshly cooked)
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • pinch of ground ginger

Put all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and enjoy!

Another deliciously healthy pumpkin snack – no-bake pumpkin oatmeal cookies.

Both of these snacks would be great to enjoy after a great run or lift session! Plus they’re pumpkin – what could be better?

Motivational Monday

Happy Monday y’all!

This week’s motivator is similar to last week’s, so I guess this is something that’s been on my mind these past few weeks.

With all of the school work, tests, research papers and two work study jobs, I have been struggling to make time to get in some workouts. This motivator reminds me that the important thing is that you are working towards a goal and you’re seeing progress, not aiming for total perfection. Making sure you have your mind set on the right thing is important so when you aren’t seeing results right away, you don’t get burnt out and lose motivation.

UP also tracks your sleep and wakes you gently in the morning with a gentle vibrate. UP follows all of your movement and activity too! There is even a setting that will alert you with a gentle buzz when you have been inactive for too long. The UP can also connect to your smartphone and display all of the data it has gathered to show how you’re doing and the progress you are making.

Fitbit Force

This is the Fitbit Force. It is very similar to the UP as it can track your activity and sleep. The Fitbit also wakes you with a gentle vibrate. The Fitbit is also intended to be worn 24/7 and is completely waterproof. The only difference between the two is that the Fitbit has a small LED screen that displays information and can even be a watch.

Both are similar in price, so in the end, it all depends on what you are looking for and which style fits you best.

Happy Monday, y’all!! I hope you all had a great weekend and didn’t enjoy too much Halloween sweets!

This week’s motivator stood out to me as soon as I saw it on Pinterest. I definitely have times where I compare myself to my friends or someone in class or a celebrity. This is an unhealthy habit to get caught up in.

We all, including myself, need to focus on ourselves and how we feel, not on how other people look.

My hope with this week’s motivator is that when you find yourself comparing yourself to the person sitting next to you, you’ll stop and remember that you can improve yourself, but do it the right way.
